Okay, so moving on to the inside of my dark brown dated cupboards. I still can't believe I lived with them for 4 years now. It had gotten to the point that opening them made me mad. Maybe it has something to do with me being pregnant and not being able to tolerate anything this color at the moment, who knows. So I did the most obvious thing to do and painted the inside. Love the results, thank goodness for creamy white. This is how all my cabinets looked liked before, and here is the after. I did away with all my mismatched dishes too.
I realized how sterile this may seem to you. I like it because it looks sooo clean.

This is where I keep my snacks, drink mixes, vitamins, and storage containers. I have learned that it works better for me to have the lids attached to the containers even if it does take up more space. I don't have missing lids anymore.

This is my spice cabinet, things were always spilling out. I am still searching for small spice racks that I can attach to the door.

The tin container (from IKEA) holds my seasoning pkg (meatloaf, ranch, Italian, gravy, taco seasoning, etc) they all stay neat inside and out of sight. The middle section holds my hot sauce & liquid smoke bottles, and my spices that I want to put on the racks, as soon as I find them. The bottom has my ck bouillon, tomato bouillon, and sea salt stored in cute small Ikea containers. My reg salt is in a bigger storage container and my everyday spices are also there at hand.

Last is my over the micro small cabinets that I use to store my oils, vinegars, cooking wines, cooking sprays, etc.
Much better, huh?

Ta Da! Paint makes a difference, don't you think? I am definitely happy with the results, now the bottom cabinets is a different story. It will definitely have to wait until I paint my master bath. Do you know what color it is now??? Hint, same color as the inside of the before cabinet, yuk. Sad part is that I chose that color, latte seemed like a good color choice at that time. Oh well you live and learn right?

{Kitchen Makeover Still in Progress}

Hellooooo!!! I'm back, and ready to rock n roll. So to get things started, here you see my kitchen before, cluttered, messy and yes those are dirty dishes in the sink.

Before this before (if this makes sense) my kitchen was still in the 80's, it had brown dated cabinets, green and white linoleum tile, and orange counter tops, yes orange, pumpkin orange to be exact. I know I should of taken pics, still kicking myself for that.

So first things first, I started with was the walls they were chalky white and I painted them this mossy green, I painted the cabinets (outside only), changed the counter tops (on the cheap, not granite...yet), and did the floors. I was into the wine theme as you can see. Forward 2 years later, I became sick of the wine decor and removed it all. It looked less cluttered, but the color was just getting on my nerves now.
This pic is out of order, but you can see what I did with the outlet covers, cute huh?

We added recess lighting, love it!

Of course my kitchen didn't stay clean for long ( 1 hubby and 2 kids

who think they have a live in maid....me)

I stayed happy with this look....for almost two years. Now I am adding some changes that I am currently working on. The color is definitely staying, but the decor isn't. I have some 6ft shelves that my hubby WILL put up for me today, after all I made him fresh flour tortillas this morning. Okay so I was buffing him up for the work I am going to slap on him when he gets home from work. Before you start feeling bad for him, let me tell you that he works in an a/c office, a little physical work wont hurt him.

So this is it for now, but tomorrow I will show you the inside of the cabinets. After 4 years they were still that yucky dated brown, filled with mismatched dishes, and other junk, until I did something about it;)

Hello friends! Yes, I have been gone a long time and feel terrible about it. I am still working on my desk disaster, and I hope that it will be worth your wait. I decided to move my desk from the breakfast area to my dinning room area, so it turned out to be a bigger project than anticipated. I was outgrowing my little nook and convinced my hubby to please let me move into the dinning room. After all we only eat there 2 times a day for about an hour each time, that seemed like a waste of space. Since my little business is doing great I definitely needed more space for my inventory. So bare with me and I promise to post pictures of the results in less that 7 days. Thank you for continuing to leave me comments and for those friends I lost, I hope I can get you back ;)

{Desk Disaster}

Does your desk look like this?? Please say, yes. Well notice the date of the photo (8-16-09), 6 months later it still looks like this, but messier. How is it possible? Well just add more paper, school flyer's, ribbons, styrofoam head, glue gun (which stays on all the time), empty spools, make-up, tassels, store coupons, and my sanity. {I hope I don't regret posting this} Well, I have challenged myself to organized my desk and create a work and storage area for my bows. You see I don't have the luxury of an extra room like some of you. So I am taking over my breakfast area, besides who needs breakfast??:) So stay tuned ........ Yikes!!

Here I am! Wow, I can't believe I have been away from blogging for a while now.

So much going on as you all can surely relate to. I had my parents come visit me from

El Paso during the Thanksgiving Holiday, and we have been traveling to Austin to visit

with friends and family as well. Now I have been trying to catch up with the house cleaning/organizing, but it just doesn't seem to come to an end. I know, boo hoo hoo, right? What can I say, it feels good to complain sometimes although it doesn't

get the house clean, but at least you get it out of your system.

So what am I up to now, well I have been working on serveral little projects, but there is one in partcular that has been absorbing my time quite a bit. Do you want to know what it is???? Drum roll please............................I am starting my own LITTLE BUSINESS!!! Yeah, very excited about that. It is a bow business for little girls and tweens. I have been designing some cute bows that I hope to post soon.

So this is pretty much what is up with me for right now. Thank you all who have been visiting my blog during my absence and welcome to the 8 new friends that have joined my little world. You are so appreciated!

Words can't explain the way I feel about my blog. It all started with Rate My Space, I loved seeing how everyone was decorating their homes. I would notice how some women would say, "if you want more details visit my blog at .....", I was like,"blog?". I quickly learned what a blog was and was hooked. I have to say that My Sweet Savannah was the very first one I came across, and it was and still is breathtaking. Now I have so many favorite ones, it's crazy good!

So I have reached 102, wow! I am so ecstatic because this is the number

I wanted to reach so bad. So many times I have been tempted to have a giveaway just so that my numbers would increase, but then I would change my mind and continued to be patient. I realized that attracting followers for their genuine interest was more important to me. Does that mean I will never have a giveaway? Of course not! It will happen....very soon.

{Dresser Mirror Makeover}

This is one of 2 mirrors I purchased from Goodwill about 4 months ago. I believe they belonged to a dresser once upon a time, but now they belong to mua. I did nothing fancy, just spray painted glossy black and made me a ragamuffin (thanks to The Nester) for added cuteness. I'm thinking of making the other one into a chalkboard and painting it white, what do you think?

I fell in love with the details.

Garage Sale Goodies!

This past Friday my husband surprised me by asking me if I wanted to go to garage sales. Yeah, of course I do! So I jumped out of bed and 2 minutes later I was ready! Dropped my daughter off to school and we were on our way.

I love these white pots, aren't they yummy?

Oh this huge creamy bathroom rug was a steal for only $3. Love it!

See the price? I think this would be great to start my very own terrarium. I have always wanted to make one.

This cute seagull was begging to come home with me, and for $1 dollar, it did.

I just noticed that everything I purchased is white! Anyways these 2 bird house were only $3 for both, I might change the roof color to maybe navy blue, or red.

At last my very own sander!!!! I have been wanting one for a while, $7.50 was so worth the wait.

Project of the Day- Glass Bead Tassel

During my recent trip to Hobby Lobby, I saw the cutest girly tassel ever! I could of bought it for $12.99, but why should I if I could make it myself. I had everything I needed already so no expense had to be made!

I pulled out my ribbon, glue gun, small styrofoam ball, and my favorite...glass beads. I used the lid from the baby food jar as my base, and just layered the ribbon around it.

I do have to warn you that I had a heck of a time getting the beads to stay put, for every 5 I would glue on, 1 would pop off. I think glue dots would of worked better, but I didn't have any, of course.
I think a perfect touch for my daughter's room.

Clean and Repurpouse Candle jars

We all love lightning up candles, specially during the cool crisp seasons, but what happens to the glass jars after the candle has finished? If your like me, you just toss it to the recycle bin...right? Well not anymore ladies. I realized how pretty the jars are to just simply throw away. So I had to do some research (google) to find out if there was a way to clean them. I tried this method and found it easy to do.

Step 1: Take your dirty, smokey jar and remove as much wax as you can.

Step 2: Boil water in a tea kettle and let the water stand for about 10 min so that the water is not boiling hot. (I actually didn't wait for the 10 minutes and one of my jars broke, so please be careful and make sure the water is not boiling hot)

Step 3: Place a spoon inside the jar and slowly pour the hot water onto the spoon 3/4 of the way. The wax will begin to float to the top.

Take a paper towel to skim the top to gather the floating wax. Carefully remove the spoon (caution it may be hot so use a hot pad) and pour the water out. Wash with soap and warm water.

Ta Da!! Don't they look clean and pretty?

Project of the Day-Horse Apples

I bought a gorgeous glass vase in a garage a couple weeks ago for $1 and decided today would be the day to do something pretty with it. Loving the results, now I just have to find the perfect spot.
I used a plain beige tag and antiqued it for that wonderful vintage look.

I used black, b&w strip, and burlap to wrap the vase.

Free horse apples, thanks to my daughter. She is part of the E-Team(Earth) and on their nature walk she saw many horse apple trees and remembered how I was looking for some. She came home very excited to tell me, I was more excited for her thoughtfulness.

Daughter's Parisian Boudoir Sneak Peak

Wow, can't believe how long it is taking me! It's one of those projects that you start with so much excitement, then slowly it becomes a pain in the rear. I haven't had solid time to finish the room, it's always in 3o minutes increments or so, once every other day. My 2 year old terror doesn't help either, as soon as I finish a nook in her room, he has rearranged(destroyed) two. So it's not possible to get things done with him in there with me. Anyways, here are a few glimpses of her room, keep in mind that they still need to be fine tuned. This is above her daybed as you can see. I am planning to go to Hobby Lobby on Monday to find that special something to add to the ledge. ( I already have something in mind, hmmm)
I love this sign(Hobby Lobby) and I plan to add a thicker ribbon to it.

Loving the banner, I want to add the word DREAM and still jazz it up a bit.

Frame+ picture+ sconce= cuteness! There is another one on the other side of the wall. The frame was gold, I bought 2 at a garage sale for $1. I added ribbon to the sconce for some drama (not that more drama is needed in this room).
My shower curtain turned cafe curtains. The lamp was a GW buy $2, the shade got a make over as well. Her jewelry box was given a face lift to match the color scheme in her room.

P.S. Sorry I stayed away for a week, I didn't have Internet service because I didn't pay my bill. Why?? Because my desk was sooo messy this bill was overlooked (lost). So lesson learned, keep desk clean. That is definitely another post, however I did get some projects and cleaning done. "7 Things You Never Knew and Probably Never Even Considered Wanting To Know" about me.

1. I was born in Juarez City (Chihuahua, MX), moved to California when I was 1 1/2yrs old, then moved to Texas when I was 12 years.

2. I have owned 3 dogs in my life, Randy(Poodle), Gizmo (Pekingese), and Maggie (Shih Tzu). I guess you could say I have a thing for small, fluffy dogs. Unfortunately 2 of them died and one got stolen.( so sad)

3. When I was 15, I lived in 1/2 of a house without windows(my dad used boards to cover the window frames at night and removed them for light during the day), without floors (used carpet to lay on dirt), without running water (we had to manually pump it out of the ground and it wasn't drinkable so we had to drive to get good water at a hardware store), these were hard time my family was going through. Although it was only 2 years, it was long enough to make me appreciate what I have now, to be humble, and to be giving to others in need as much as possible.

4. I hated using our outhouse and was so embarrassed by it I never had friends over. I also slept on a couch for 2 years, I loved that couch, it was so cozy.

5. I love nature(mountains, pine trees,water streams everywhere) and so far Ruidoso, NM in one of my favorite places to get a dose of it. It is gorgeous there and only less than 3 hours away from my parents house.

6. I love the beach, but I am terrified of the ocean.

7. I started having premature grey hair (20%) at the age of 19. So L'Oreal is my BFF!

Look what arrived in the mail today...

It's my Hobby Lobby Gift card from Six in One Hand Giveaway!! It had a little trouble getting here though and let me tell you why. When Angelique mailed it to me the first time, it never made it. Why??? Someone in the Postal Office went shopping with it. Who else could of took it??

So when she e-mailed me to ask if I had received it, I sadly said no. She was ready to mail me another one on the spot, but I wanted her to wait another week just to make sure it wasn't lost in the mail, but it wasn't. Without hesitation Angelique mailed me another one with an extra $10, total of $35! How sweet is that? She said it's for my inconvenience,but the inconvenience was for her. So hoping avoid this from happening to any of us, I would like to ask you girls for tips on how to avoid gift cards from being lost (stolen) in the mail? Any tips would be appreciated, I sure don't want this to happen to another generous blogging buddy who has the best of intentions. Thank you for listening (reading).

GW & GS Finds

It's been a while since I have been to Goodwill or to garage sales, so this past weekend I treated myself. My husband came along for the ride as well and scored on a T.V. DVD combo for his camper. He won't admit it, but he also enjoys GW & GS.

So this is what I found, a lrg pic frame $2, sewing basket $1(from JC Penney), 2 sm gold pic frames $1, silver pear.75, sm frame $1, metal urn $6(a little pricey, but I had to have it),and this beautiful desk for my daughter for only $5! This desk is so adorable, and I am loving the details. The only think is that it's missing a handle, but that's OK.

Somehow I am going to redo this basket, not liking the color very much.

Cute.

Love it, still deciding if I should keep it as is or paint it.

Girls Night Out!

This past Sunday, October 19th, my daughter and I went to go see Miley Cyrus in concert. We had so much fun singing along and dancing. Where does time go? I still remember taking her to the Disney On Ice shows starting at age 4. Now in her tween years, it's The Cheetah Girls, The Jona Brothers, and now Miley Cyrus! It's wonderful being able to provide such a privilege and joy for my daughter. The important thing is that she knows everything she gets is because she has earned through her excellent behaviour, grades, and keeping up with her responsibilities. This was a great shot of Miley being suspended in mid air during the song "Fly on the Wall".

She was singing "I love Rock n Roll", while being suspended on the motorcycle in mid air. So cool!!!

It's great that I get to share these moments with my daughter. I keep telling my husband that I feel a bit guilty that I'm the one always having the fun with her at concerts. He tells me not to worry and to enjoy these moments with her because when our son gets old enough, he'll be taking him to the Cowboys Games. I guess it evens out.
Happy daughter = happy mom!

Entryway Makeover

This was my old entryway, cozy and cute, but like everything else I got tired of it. It began to look cluttered and extra things were getting shoved in the shelves. So a while back my husband added creamy white stripes to the wall, and it looked like this.
Then I added black frames with a touch of ribbon and now it looks like this.

I printed these out on regular white paper, stapled the ribbon to the frames and voila!

This is my touch of fall, cute white pumpkins and a febreze candle in willow blossom, love it!!

Here is the other little piece of entryway on the opposite wall. This is the perfect spot for my son's timeout bench. It is working out perfectly so far.

My husband bought this for him last year during the holidays, he built it 3 months ago, and I painted it 4 days ago. Talk about procrastination!! We are both working on it.

IKEA Bookshelf Makeover

This book shelf was a $50 buy at the IKEA store a few years ago. I was very close to selling it a couple of weeks ago until it hit me....why not give it a make over! So I nagged my husband to go buy some moulding and so we (he) can get started on it. He began by removing the back board and replacing it with some left over bead board, then the top moulding was next, and finally side rope moulding was added. We used creamy white for the paint from Sherwin Williams.
Here is the finished shelf!

I am very pleased considering we only spent less that$30. This will definitely go in my daughter's room ,which is very close to being finished!!!

Did I mention my husband has no carpentry skills what so ever? Yet he tries his best just to make me happy. I knew he was a keeper the moment I saw him.

I heart baskets

Let me start off by saying how much I love baskets, but who doesn't right? They are perfect for keeping things neat and organized. They can also be used to store, serve, or display. The best part is that the textures of woven baskets fit right into the fall theme, don't you think?? Here are a few more cozy pictures of beautiful baskets that show us great ideas for storage.

I'm definitely going to be buying a baskets for my fire wood, what a great idea!

Do you have too many books and don't know where to store them ? Just put them in some baskets and you are done. Of course you can make it more special by adding a cute label on the basket.

I hope you enjoyed these pictures as much as I did. Sometimes it's good to remember the versatility of baskets and use them to our advantage and not just for decorating purposes.

Fun idea for all your wallet size pictures

This is what I came up with to display all my wallet size pictures I have been given throughout the years. Pretty neat huh? Total cost for this project was $7 and about 2 hours of labor. This frame was purchased at Hobby Lobby for $6.99, original price was $69.99...yeah I scored! The ribbons, glass bead pins,cork board, and black and white toile fabric I already had. The Family plaque was also purchased at Hobby Lobby a while back, I just framed it with a dollar frame from GW(Good Will) that was sprayed white. We added the stripes to my hallway about 1 month ago, the same day we painted my daughter's room. I love it so much better now.

Cozy Study Area

As previously promised, here is my daughter's cozy study area. I created this space for her because her room was too distracting for her. Too often did I walk in on her only to find her playing with her barbies, little pets, or game boy instead of doing her homework. I moved her to the dinning room hoping it would work out better, but I was wrong.

So I found her a little nook in the living room that was empty and began making it her special study area. She loved it the minute she saw it! I have noticed how much she enjoys doing her homework now, and how clean and organized she keeps her desk.
The mini eiffel tower is actually a gift from Paris, she loves Paris, just like mom. You what she told me the other day while shopping at Target? Her: "Mommy, you know what? I am so into you!". Me: "What? What do you mean?" Her:, "I just love your style of decorating! I love how you make everything so cozy and yummy and cottagy(?) and parisy(?)." Yes, yummy is a word we use to describe anything and everything. She also said she wants me to decorate her house when she buys one. She made me so happy, and like my bff says, she gave me warm fuzzies. I'm glad to know my daughter appreciates the fact that I am working hard to make our home our cozy and yummy.(?don't know if these are actual words, but that is what she said)

My 2 year old son on the other hand can careless, his only care in the world right now are cookies, cars, and making the biggest mess possible in one day! He's another story.

OK, now for the details on the study, almost everything on the desk is from GW or garage sale with the exception of the mini trash can(Target dollar section, $2.50) and the wooden doll(Ikea $6 I think). I made the doll a female by adding a flower on her head and a tutu made of toilet paper. The trash can also got a little touch of toile ribbon and a label holder.

The fun & cute file folder is from Wal-Mart. I am using this one for all her papers that need my signature.

This was an ugly frame, that I forgot to take a before picture of it, purchased at GW. I left the frame alone and just spayed chalkboard paint on it. The banner is just scrap paper and ribbon, easy peasy!

The lamp was also a GW find, I sprayed it with metallic silver to cover the ugly brass. I am working on a cute, girly tassel to hang on it.

The black ottoman stores our throws and the toile box is storage for what ever needs to be hidden I mean stored.

And there you have it, the only area in the living room that is complete.

Kitchen Inspiration

How many of us already have a million projects to do/finish?? (both of my hands are up) So why do we keep adding to our endless list of projects?? Do we have the need to feel like Super Woman, we can do it all, the more the better type of attitude?? I guess so. I am juggling my daughter's room (still), hallway(almost done), her study nook(few touches needed), and the kitchen(almost there)! So I did what I love to do the most, and that is to search for inspiration for my kitchen. Why not? It's not my priority right now, but I can start right?? Well, I hope you get more done than what I have been able to do. Did I mention I am having a garage sale this weekend? Yup, another thing added to the list. Oh well, enjoy these lovely kitchens.

Sometimes it's ok to judge...

...a book by it's cover. We all have some books we use and love, but sometimes they just aren't pretty to look at. So I began searching for ideas to cover 2 huge dictionaries that will be on my daughter's new study nook(pictures will soon be posted). I came across these wonderful pictures of books that were full of inspiration. I like these books, the colors go very well together. Too bad that is not my color scheme., cute shoes though.

What a great idea! I will definitely try this idea out in the near future, but for now let me show you what I did. This is the before picture of the books.

And this is the after picture of the first look.
I used brown paper from a roll I bought for my son at Home Depot, and added jute webbing(thank you EAB Desings for the inspiration). I liked it, but realized it was not girly enough for my daughter's desk, it was more me than her.
So then I tried this idea next.
This worked out so much better. I used fresh flowers, and ribbon to match her pink, teal, and black theme. The ribbon also ties well with the banner I made her, oh you haven't seen her banner yet, have you? You will soon, pinky promise.(moms with daughters, you know how serious a pinky promise is right?)

It's officially Fall and while everyone is showing off their great fall decoration ideas, I though I would post something different that is still so Fall....Carmel Apples! With so many delicious ways to dress up an apple now a days, how can you eat just one? They are such a delish treat and a must make dessert for my family. I will be planning our carmel apple making day pretty soon with my daughter, she is very excited about this. She gets even more excited when she gets to give them as gifts to our friends and family. Do you enjoy making these treats?? Please, do share your ideas!

So this is what kept me from blogging a few days ago(and housework). Can you believe I'm still scrapping off paint from my nails?! First, let me start by apologizing in advance for the poor quality of some of the pictures, my camera was having it's moments. :) Okay then, shall we begin??

Goodwill Goodies

Here are some items I found this weekend. Of course this is only the home decor stuff, my son and daughter also scored on some great finds. I think they are finally starting to like GW.Let me start of by saying, I love frames! My husband still doesn't understand

my obsession with them, but that's OK.
Next is this pretty silver plated cup with white roses($1.25), and this
desk organizer($5) that will come in handy.

This tall candle stick took my breath away! Imagine how gorgeous it will
look once it meets Heirloom White?

These 2 pottery barn cups were only .75 cents each, they will probably
be used for office supplies.

Last, but not least, these two trays... they just need a little bit of cleaning.

glass bead push pins

Do you want to make some of these cute push pins?? Below is a picture of what you need, plus a pack of pins from Target. All the images were printed out from my computer, just copy, paste, and shrink. I had to print a few before I could get the right size, then it hit me, put a glass bead up against the monitor screen to see if the image fits! This should save you some paper and ink. Of course you can always use scrap paper, oh the possibilities!

I used blk card stock to give the back a finished look. Just trace a penny, cut , & paste.

This is what started this idea, the mini lamp shade I was decorating for my daughter's room (before she changed her theme & colors). I was covering the shade with pins I purchased at Target for under $2, as you can see, it would of taken more than one pkg to finish the project.

I noticed how easy the plastic tops would come off, so the peeling began and the idea was born.
Here is a closer look of the bare pin, the back of the bead with a glue dot, and the finished push pin.

Ta Da!! Easy peasy right?

This is my daughter's art from kinder, I am the purple fish (because purple was my fav color then, now it's fuchsia!), and dad is the blue one. Don't we look cute?

Goodwill Goodies!

Here are more of my GW finds, I am seriously addicted to this place! That's OK, right? Well, here's an overview picture of the cute stuff I found.

I love this little blue house ($2), not quite sure where it will end up just yet.
I plan on painting the silver jewelry box ($1.75) white (surprised?), and will keep the frame ($1.00) as is. The have been looking for napkin holders like these, they were only $1.75.

I love my new trash can ($1.00), I needed one for my desk. The birdhouse with the white picket fence was just too adorable and for $2, I knew I could give it some TLC.

Oh yes, this heavy white serving tray was a steal for only $2! I can't wait to use it for our next gathering.

Last, but definitely not least, this GORGEOUS mirror by Carolina. Well that's what the label on the back said. Judging by the size (roughly 3'h x 4'w), and weight it seems to be a pricey mirror, but of course I got it for FREE!! How?? I had a coupon for $25 off a $50 purchase, the price on the mirror was only $20.75. I received so many envious looks that day. It was the most uncomfortable walk to the register ever! Even the poor guy helping me carry the mirror out said, "wow, you sure have upset the women in here." Seriously ladies, it's Goodwill! We all know it's a hit or miss type of store, so why hate? I'm so glad you all are nothing like those meanie women.

Look at the details!! So the question now is, should I leave it as is, or paint it white (heirloom white)? Your opinion will be so much appreciated, thank you in advance.

Laundry Room Reveal

This was my sad and ugly laundry room, it's depressing isn't it?? Until this happened.... TA DA!!

I went shopping around my home, and used left over paint from my daughter's bathroom. I did have to buy the shelf abover the washer and dryer at Lowe's for $20, but that all the spending I had to do ( for now).

This is the left side, the black basket rest on a $2 tall deep drawer organizer I purchased at a garage sale a while back. It stores my bleach, light bulbs, dryer balls, and other junk.

The little cute wooden blocks were a goodwill find, I was originally going to paint them white with blk letters, but then this happened. Oh the urn, bird, sm white saucer, and the pic frame chalkboard are also goodwill finds (pic frame was an ugly shiny silver b4).

There's my favorite number 2! My cute chef has been with me for 5 years, I love him!

This small cork board was $1 at GW.

This is the door my husband exits every morning, so he has no excuse to miss his "Honey do List"! It will be filled by Friday, hehe.

I will eventually add trim around the chalkboard and replace the ugly door knob. I will also add a black carpet I already have until I find a cute black and white diamond pattern one. I do need suggestions on what to add above the chef pictures, it looks unfinished. Any ideas???

living room bliss

Wow! I am so happy to have found these amazing living rooms! They all took my breath away, and I'm sure it will do the same for you. So sit back, be inspired, and enjoy!

I love almost everything about this living room, the openness, the colors, frames, the eclectic mix of furniture, chippy blue trunk. And if you must know what I don't like about it, well let me tell you, it's the angel ....it seems creepy to me.

Oh, if only I had the time and $$ to make over my living room, I would. I just have too many projects at the moment that I need to finish (dinning room, hallway, daughter's room, son's room). But it's okay to start looking for inspiration now, right?

Goodwill Goodies!

Another week of wonderful finds at my local Goodwill Store. I love the feeling I get when I find stuff I actually need, don't you. For example, I needed a lamp for my daughter's room (which is still in the works) and I found the perfect one for $2.75, all it needs is a shade makeover.

I also scored on the cute white shelf ($5.00), lrg birdhouse($$3.50), wall outdoor plaques (3.75 each), glass beads ($1), gold alphabet blocks(.75), sm bird house(.75) and a brown candle holder ( I think that's what it is, all I know is that it will get a heirloom white makeover).

Closer look at the lrg bird house, I'm thinking some pretty spa blue candles with lrg glass beads. Any other ideas??

Love what the plaques say, I thought about painting them white, what do you think? They are pretty as is....hmmm.(help)

Laundry Room Inspiration

I have yet to meet someone that actually likes to do laundry. I know I shouldn't complain and just be thankful that that I don't have to hand wash since the machine does the work for me, but still, this is one chore I can do without! Cork Board redo

I got this cork board a couple yrs ago in an estate sale for $5. The frame color was originally avocado green (not pretty), then black, and now a beautiful Inlet Blue (by Laura Ashley). The little paint sample can cost me under$3, and there's still plenty left for some other projects.

I covered the cork with burlap (of course), and used glass beads to cover the frayed edges.

Drum roll if you please......Ta Da!

I felt the need to paint something else with this delicious color, so I did this.

By the way that yellow pot was one of my Goodwill buys($1.75), it had horrible flowers in it.

My daughter's room is still in progress, it is slowly coming together though. In the meantime, I have decided to give her 7 year old dress (purchased @ k-mart for $60) a face lift. I gave it a light sand and removed the stickers. I already had the black paint, I just bought 2 glass knobs for $2.99each. Let me know what you think.

Like me, most of you moms have at least 1 after school activities you take your child to right? With all the things you already have to do and keep track of, it's pretty easy to forget what day you do what, especially if you have more that 1 school age child. So I decided it was time for my 10yr old daughter to take responsibility for her own activities (and remind me too). So here is a little something I did for her to help herself stay organized.

I used a variety of tags, glass beads, clothe pins, scrap paper, paint, glue dots, mod podge, and magnetic strips.

Next, I dug out my old calendar.

Here are some ideas I was playing with. The possibilities here are endless so put on your creativity hat on.

You can see which day I will be super busy.

This is what it looks like now. I also made a pop-corn magnet for movie night, and "your special day" one. ( for my use only) The circle one on the bottom right is water park logo, I cut it out and added a magnet, it was cute as is. (she doesn't know she's going yet)

What a busy weekend!! It was filled with last minutue school shopping, painting, cleaning, organizing, trial run make-up session for a future bride, and my daughter's room makeover. So please forgive me if I disapointed you, but this project turned out to be more work than anticipated.
We (my husband) had to replace some of the tape and bed that had been done poorly before we moved in, it was bubbly and peeling off. Then we tried to remove the pop-corn from the celing, so we (he) started at the small celing area above the bay window. After seeing how time consuming it was going to be, not to mention the big , big mess I would have to clean, I decided I would learn to love the pop-crn stuff (for now). So here are some pictures of what we started with and the progress we have made so far.

Yes, it is a very loud color, but she loved it. She has had a bubble gum pink room, lavender, purple and yellow combo, soft green, and aquarium (color shown). So I conviced her to go with a neutral color this time.

This is the closet, you can still see the yellow from before. This is the side I want my hubby to add an extra shelf.

The pic below shows you all the stuff that was in her closet. You couldn't walk in it! Very shameful, I know, but after I get done with this room she will have no exuse on not being ablel to keep it clean.

We gave the room 2 coats of paint just to make sure that pesky turquoise wouldn't show up and we did the scalloped project which was time consuming, but fun. My goal is to be done by Thursday, we shall see.

frame redo

Now we all have seen or may own these type of frames. I personally have several that I have purchased in garage sales or Goodwill, this one cost me .75cents. I really like it as is,but it doesn't go with my decor, so I painted it. I used Americana Acrylic Paints in white and spa blue, paper plate, damp paper towel, and a sponge tip applicator.

First, I poured the white paint directly on the frame making sure that the paint was going inside the letters, I use the sponge to dab it in.

Next, I used a moist paper towel to rub off the white paint of the frame. The letters should be nicely filled with white paint, I retouched where needed.

Last, I poured spa blue on the paper plate, and reused the sponge (I rinsed it before)and dabbed some paint on it(not too much). I brushed gently over the frame being careful not to put too much pressure on it so I that the paint would not go in the letters and mess up the effect.

My daughter's Parisian Boudoir Inspiration

My daughter's bedroom is in serious need of a make over. She has been asking me to do a Parisian theme in her room for about a year now. I promised her it would get done this summer before school starts........well there is only 5 days left before school begins! Needless to say I am stressing just a little bit, I don't want to break my promise to her, but I know it is going to be a challenge to get the following done in 4 days:

paint her dresser to match rm theme

shop to find cute Parisian accessories

organize & decorate

Whew....this is going to be tough! There's a good chance I might not get to finish doing everything on the list, but I will do as much as time, energy, and my 2 year old son allow me to. I will post whatever gets done on Monday.....let the stress begin, I mean fun, hehe.

bathrm redo- reveal

This is the longest post I have ever done, but it was necessary, you'll see why. First, let me tell you a bit about the history of this restroom. When we purchased this house built in the 80's, 3 and a half years ago, this bathroom had a low, brown, dated vanity with yucky yellowish, glittery counter top, huge mirror which I have saved, hideous round glass balls used for lighting hung on with chains one on each end of the vanity, and black...yes BLACK vinyl flooring. Can you imagine that? Since then, we have replaced the black floor with a free piece of better looking cream vinyl one, added a new light fixture, mirror, and the pedestal sink. ($350.00 estimated total)

This is the only pic I have of the sink, and the vanity, it's the only 1 of 3 still left. Sorry, for the dirty faucet, the cleaning lady was sick......OK I can't lie to you, I don't have a cleaning lady. Hey, I was busy decorating my daughter's bathroom, isn't that more important??

This was what I started with, plain and too simple. The color on the walls is 6430 Great Green by Sherwin Williams.

Remember my $1 inspiration?

Ta Da!! Here is what I was able to put together with $2.50 worth of scrap paper and two .99 cent glass containers I purchased at Hobby Lobby. I already owned everything else. I have to say though how fortunate I was to have found coordinating scrap paper that matched perfectly with the shower curtain (GW buy for $1.99) It was fun and a bit stressful at times, but my daughter loved it and isn't that what matters??
The white shelf was a freebie and I painted the trash can with flowers. I am still searching for 3 coordinating baskets. Tray and tea light lamp purchased from GW a while back, ($1 a piece). I painted the tray and decoupaged it, and the lamp shade was spray painted in watermelon from Krylon. The lids were painted white, labeled, and added a cute flower sticker. I also decoupaged the outlet and light switch.
I purchased these wood chips from Hobby Lobby (4 for .99 cents) and spay painted them with chalkboard paint on one side and decoupage the other with scrap paper. The white cabinet was purchased at Goodwill for $12, I just switched out the knobs and added scrap paper to the bottom shelf. I made the frames, added a decoupaged flower to the tissue holder (GW $1.75), sprayed painted the dragonfly, basket on top, and the metal one on the shelf. *I have replaced the metal basket with a long white wash basket that better fit the space, after I had already downloaded this picture. Welcome to the world of decorating, one minute it's there, the next minute it's not or placed somewhere else. Can you relate to this? If you must see a picture of the new basket just let me know and I will post a picture just for you. :)

The curtain is a shower curtain folded and flipped on a rod, still not done detailing it though.

I wasn't sure what to do to the mirror to dress it up, but then I remembered reading a tutorial, on a wonderful blog(please let me know who you are), on making decorative magnetic glass beads using scrap paper. So my wheels starting turning and I used that idea to come up with this one. Here is a closer look at the cute beads.

Here is look of all my wonderful finds from my local Goodwill Store. I try to limit myself to one visit each week, but sometimes I just have to go for seconds, do you know what I mean? Snowmen globe ornaments 3 for $2.75, they are heavy! I'm thinking of using them on a winter wreath. I heart urns, do you? (only $2.25) .75 cents for this cute tea light holder The set of 4 napkin holder mini frame/place cards were $2.75 and the heavy candle holder on the bottom was $3ea (I bought 2 of them) I have plans for this cute $5 stool. It will be part of my next decorating project. I just fell in love with this piece ($6). I have no idea what to use it for, so if you have any ideas please send some my way. Last, but not least, this picture was $8.75 and it caught my eye the moment I saw it, it's something about the black and gold combo. (sorry for the glare)

While searching for the perfect little bird template, I happen to stumble over this great freebie here. This is a great website for those of you who do digital and hybrid scrapbook projects. I personally haven't tried it yet, but it's one of my many things "to do", anyways I downloaded the "celebrated paintbrushes" letters design by Miss Tiina (pic above). Hello & happy Friday to all my friends, OK so I only have 4, but who's counting! You never know who will stop by and visit, right?

So I'm supposed to be working on my dinning room, but I decided to put that off for a few days. Instead let me tell you about my new smaller project I decided to do this weekend, my daughter's bathroom! It is not girly enough for her, and it's too, too plain. Guess what my inspiration is? A doll I bought at Goodwill for $1 and a Pottery Barn shower curtain I got for $2! I heart Goodwill.......so here is a pic above of my inspiration items and below is a better pic of the shower curtain. Be sure to come back on Monday for the reveal.

front door makeover

Painting my front door was so easy to do, once I decided on the color. I first wanted a red door, but my husband wasn't to thrilled with the idea, so I went with classic black. Here is a before shot:

I used Glidden high gloss black and gave it 2 coats, no primer, no sanding. I just cleaned the door and went for it. Although I am not quite finished, I love the way it turned out. I still need to add my address on the door and replace that yucky door knob combo for a pretty polish silver one . Here is the after shot:

dinning room part 2

So, in the past I mentioned I was tired of my dinning room and was going to redecorate, and I did, sort of. Well, I did buy some fabric for my new window treatments, and moved some furniture around, but then I waltzed into the living room and decided to rearrange my furniture (again). Oh how I complicate my life! I have the hardest time focusing on one room at a time! Anyways here is a glimpse of the beautiful fabric I purchased for my dinning room. Did I mention it was on clearance for $4 a yard? So, I did the right thing, and bought it all!! Now off I go to finish the dinning room.

stressed over dinning room

This week I started to redecorate my dinning room. It was getting pretty tired of decorating it mentally several times while eating breakfast, lunch, & dinner. Yeah, how stressful is that? So I decided to finally do something about it. I haven't quite finished yet but I do like how it's turning out. Browsing through so many wonderful blogs have given me the inspiration needed to almost complete this task. I wish I was gifted like these woman are, but I'm not. I am one of those who need help, and what I mean by help is "borrowing" ideas from here and there. I will make sure to give credit where credit is due, after all I owe you all my sanity.

I'm so proud to say this beauty is my little sister. She graduated in the top ten percent of her class (she was #13). She plans to attend ELP Community College where she will be taking her basics first before transferring to UT Austin to major in Business. Way to go!!

Taco Tuesday

OK so it's not Tuesday, but who cares! Any day is a good day to eat these delicious crunchy chicken tacos. It's easy and simple to prepare, give it a try. I know you'll love it!

Recipe:

about 2 cups of shredded chicken ( I use breast ) season to taste (s&p or season salt)
8 corn tortillas
1/4 to 1/2 of canola oil
a plate covered with 3 layers of paper towels to drain excess oil on the tacos

toppings
shredded lettuce
chopped tomatoes
avocado slices
sour cream
shredded cheddar cheese
salsa (I make my own)

Heat a skillet on med/low and add the oil. If the oil start to smoke then turn down the heat just a bit. Place enough seasoned chicken on one side of the cold corn tortilla being careful not to overload it. Place the tortilla flat on the skillet, after a few seconds (5) flip the other side of the tortilla over the chicken. Let it crisp for about 2 minutes on each side. When golden brown place then on the paper towels for a few minutes, and stuff them with your choice of toppings! That's all folks.

Old roof coming down...and a roofer too!

I'm getting a new roof! Today all the old roof is coming down, one little problem though...a roofer came down with it! Yes, I laughed and I am not ashamed to say it. That's just me! I know it's wrong, but oh so funny. He is okay, no broken bones, or blood, just a big, big, bruise on his leg. Carry on amigos!

Buttermilk Oatmeal Pancakes

I was looking for a way to add nutrition to the basic pancake, and with a little though & inspiration this is what I came out with. They came out naturally sweet so little syrup was needed. Let me know when you try this, enjoy!

Recipe:

1 cup of your basic pancake mix. ( I used Aunt Jemima) follow the box directions

1 cup of buttermilk instead of milk

1/4 cup of oatmeal (quick 1 minute kind)

1/2 of smashed fresh banana

1 teaspoon of vanilla

Mix wet ingredients well first, then add the dry ingredients (mix and oats) Heat pan, add about 1 teaspoon of oil ( you can use butter) well you know the rest. :)

This piece of furniture was a dated dark brown wood. I added the wood appliques, painted it, and stressed it. I think it came out pretty good, if I do say so myself. :)
